The church takes its name from the big vineyard on which it grew upon, it is a religious building in the city of Venice, located in Campo San Francesco della Vigna, in the Castello zone. The current building, started by Jacopo Sansovino in 1534, is one of the most outstanding Renaissance churches in Venice. Built for the Franciscans, it was completed in 1554; the construction of the amazing facade was assigned to Palladio ten years later, in 1564. Testimonies of the Venetian nobility of the church are the two side chapels, which eventually became the funerary chapels of the families that had sponsored its construction.
